About Ann’s Memoir

Ann Haskin was born in a three-room shack in the backwoods of Alabama. Her father died when she was two. Her mother was abusive and neglectful, leaving the hungry children to fend for themselves as they searched for food. This continued until the children were rescued by the police and escorted to their aunt’s cotton farm. There, they picked cotton all day in the hot, humid sun.

Shortly thereafter, the children were returned to their mother who, after moving a stranger into the house, fled to California with him and the children. They would watch in horror as this man would beat their mother, at times leaving her for dead.

Ann’s life demonstrates the power of God, which transformed a shattered childhood into a life of purpose and meaning. This is a story of hope, faith, and forgiveness and how she found joy and peace in His promises.

Ten Lost Children: A Story of Redemption | So Inspiring Ten Lost Children is a true story of Ann Haskins childhood. The story is so inspiring in what God’s amazing strength & abundant grace can do. The people God places in her path to nurture and care for her becomes evident with the mark they leave. I was not able to put the book down. Tonight, I had the pleasure to meet Ann. Loved her humbleness and giving God all the glory for her story. Truly an inspiring book for everyone to read.

Ten Lost Children: A Story of Redemption | Such a wonderful story how God can work wonders & take us from sadness to gladness! I honestly can't imagine not feeling loved by those that I need to count on to take care of me & raise me. I am so much in awe of little, middle & grown up Hazel. She showed such an amazing capacity to love others from such a tiny little girl to a grown-up. Her story opened my eyes to so much that I take for granted. It makes me want to seek out those who could use a helping hand, but might not be able to ask for it. May all who read her book be blessed with the knowledge that God loves us & wants us to seek him first. Thank you Ann Haskins for sharing your story with us! God Bless!

Ten Lost Children: A Story of Redemption | Awesome Read !!! This book came to me by sure coincidence. My mom's Sunday school class had read it and suggested it to her. She began reading it and soon recognized the Barron name and the beginning location of Ball Play Alabama. I am too a Barron ( by marriage) and she asked me several times if I knew of this story and of the author Ann? I had not but began asking my husband and figured out she was indeed related to him. Her Dad and my husband's Grandfather were brothers. I myself did not grow up in an abusive household and for that I'm beyond grateful but to see what this lady went through and still had the faith that God could bring her out of that situation was amazing. I am not much of a book person but this had me reading it every free second I could find. It will make you sad, make you cry, make you mad, but in the end it will make you grateful. Grateful that you grew up in a good home or grateful that even if you didn't there is hope that God that can see you through the worst of things in your life.

Ten Lost Children: A Story of Redemption | It's a common miracle! If only more would rely on the Lord as Ann has done they might find true joy. Ann's story is not as unique as one might think, we all have a story, a lot of us have endured great pain at the hands of others, and because of that a lot of us have sought refuge, pain relief, and acceptance from things or other people that have never truly satisfied or truly cared for us. Jesus revealed Himself to Ann in a mighty real way and although you will be angry at times wanting to jump in the story and save that little girl, you come to find that Jesus has already done that. What He does He does so well. Ann's experiences are nothing compared to what she is experiencing as a Believer in Jesus and the testimony of Jesus in her life dangles like the choicest fruit from the sweetest of trees for your picking, but you will never know of it if you don't pick up this book and read it for yourself. Ann is not ashamed and speaks Jesus with boldness and is a walking, living daughter of the King. Read the book and be blessed and know that He loves you just as much as He loves Ann and has been in the business of saving and comforting since the history of ever. We love you Ann! (Justin)

Ten Lost Children: A Story of Redemption | What an incredible book! Our book club chose this book to read. We are located in Alabama near Ballplay where the family is from. This book was loved by all! The book told an incredible story of forgiveness. We had a great discussion as a group and talked about what we can do as a church group to help children and families in our community.I personally loved that most children moved back to Alabama as an adult. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and my married life has been in Charlotte, North Carolina. My grandparents lived in Alabama. I always loved visiting family in Alabama…nicest people, ever! We recently retired in Alabama and love it.We hope to meet Ann Haskins when she visits family in this area.Highly recommend this book!
